Time ticking down.
The game is all tied up.
A large wave of energy forces people to their feet.
Nervous screams fill the air.
5 seconds to go.
All focus is on shooting the ball.
3.
2.
1.
It's good.
The basket counts.
The team rushes to the floor.
I made the shot.
Gold Coast Rollers win by 2.
The year is 2017 and I had just hit my first game winner.
But I felt strange.
I went home that night, feeling down.
I had just achieved a childhood dream, but I still felt like a failure.
Alone.
No one to celebrate with.
My family was there, yes.
But no one else.
No one cared.
And they shouldn’t of.
I had put no time in building relationships.
I had put no time into celebrating others' successes.
I had put no time into helping others achieve their goals.
I was a selfish loner.
And my situation reflected that.
Fast forward to 2 nights ago.
Everything was different.
The hug from Fab.
DRM grabbing my face as I tried to look all tough and mean.
The celebrations with my team.
The facetimes with friends and family.
The messages from you.
I didn’t celebrate alone.
An experience I'll cherish forever
It doesn’t matter what goal you're working towards.
Or, what dream you are chasing.
I can promise you one thing.
Achieving it will be cool for a split moment.
But enjoying that moment with the people you love is all that matters.
You always hear about being competitive and the dog-eat-dog world.
But, it is simply not true.
There are enough resources to go around.
The scarcity mindset helps no one.
The secret to success isn't the solo daily grind.
The secret is to create a team of people who support you and motivate you.
You won't achieve your dreams without YOUR PEOPLE.
You won't enjoy the process without YOUR PEOPLE.
And you damn sure won't have fun when it's all said and done without YOUR PEOPLE.
So let's take a moment to focus on a friend or loved one around you.
Celebrate their success.
Pick them up.
Help them work towards their goals.
And I promise you, it will help you 100x times fold.
