We must continue to reflect on our lives.
Reflection allows us to see where we came from.
And where we are heading.
Take notes.
Make change.
Grow.
A year will always have many ups and downs.
We must learn from these.
What leads to the highs?
What caused the lows?
Ask ourselves these questions.
I learnt a lesson this year through career success.
Be careful.
The goalposts keep moving forward.
2022 was the year of basketball for me.
I finally achieved the goal I had been working towards for so long.
To be a starter in the NBL.
The Jackie's were rocking.
The arena's sold out.
Playoffs are within reach.
Everything I had been working towards came to fruition.
But I felt a little empty.
I wanted more.
More buckets.
More wins.
More crowds.
The moment never seemed enough.
This is a constant battle for all competitive people.
We want more.
The goalposts keep moving forward, and we are never satisfied.
This is a good trait to have when pursuing excellence.
But it's also unsustainable.
The wear-down effect of never feeling good enough will break you.
I had to breathe.
Take moments to capture what was developing.
Enjoy the process.
Love what I've built and am continuing to build.
It's easy to look back and want to have changed moments.
I wish we could have done this.
I would have preferred to act a certain way.
That game was good but I could have done better.
It's only natural.
But not always healthy.
The way of the human is to want more.
More money, more friends, more cars, and more clothes.
But 2022 told me that doesn’t bring you peace and happiness.
What does bring me peace and happiness?
Being present and appreciating the journey.
Being thankful for those around you.
Gratitude for every small win.
Moments of self-love for taking that small step forward.
2022 taught me to take little pitstops along the drive and enjoy the view.
Because no matter how far we drive, we will never reach the destination.
And when we do. (Death)
We better make sure we appreciated the drive.
